City Guide New York – All you need to know about sightseeing, theater, dining and shopping in the city, including an “Activity Planner” where you can enter in the dates of your stay for a list of events going on during that time.

NYCgo.com – Operated by NYC & Company, the city’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, this website is chock-full of useful info, from where to find Internet access (check “essentials”) to guides to wheelchair accessibility and gay-friendly, eco-friendly, kid-friendly and senior-friendly New York (click the “nyc life” tab).

Gothamist – A frequently updated website including breaking New York news, also searchable by categories such as arts and events, food and “popular.” If it’s going on in the five boroughs, you’ll find info on it here.

New York Magazine – The website for this city magazine is an invaluable source for breaking news (Daily Intel), culture (the Vulture blog) and food buzz (Grub Street blog and restaurant listings) among other information.

TimeOut New York – In addition to comprehensive listings about what’s going on in the city, the website for TONY magazine rounds up their picks for the best things you should be doing every week.

NewYorkology – A comprehensive, constantly updated travel guide containing everything a visitor (or native) needs to know about New York City, categorized by “ology” (Foodology, Drinkology, Shopology, etc. etc.)

NY Times New York City travel guide – The website for the world-famous newspaper also includes a great travel section devoted to New York, including suggestions on where to stay, where to eat, and what to do as well as a searchable archive of New York-related articles they’ve published.

The L Magazine – This free publication (which you can pick up at kiosks throughout the city) and its website are chock-full of great info on art, music and other culture-related events going on in the city, as well as movie/book/music/restaurant reviews. They even throw in a weekly horoscope, a sex column and some short fiction for good measure.
